Ware County Fire & Rescue’s own Matt Williams was awarded the prestigious Volunteer Firefighter of the Year award during the Waycross Exchange Club’s February 27 Public Safety Banquet.
The recognition honors his selfless dedic ation and unwavering commitment to the community he has served for over a decade.
Battalion Chief Matthew Grantham penned a heartfelt nomination letter saying Williams represents the very spirit of volunteerism.
“Matt embodies the true spirit of volunteerism, demonstrating an exceptional level of dedication and a remarkable willingness to serve others,” wrote Grantham. “His selfless commitment to our community makes him a truly deserving candidate for this prestigious recognition.”
Williams joined Ware County Fire Rescue in 2010 and has since become a cornerstone of the department. Williams’ contributions extend far beyond the fire line. He is an active participant in training exercises, attends department meetings, and consistently goes the extra mile to ensure the team’s success.
“He is a team player, always willing to lend a hand and support his fellow firefighters,” Grantham noted, highlighting Williams’ positive attitude and collaborative spirit.
