Ware County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) proudly honored Captain Jamie Lamie as the 2025 Paramedic of the Year at the Waycross Exchange Club’s Public Safety Officer of the Year Banquet, recognizing his exceptional leadership, compassion, and dedication to his team and community.
The event was held Thursday, February 27 at the Exchange Club’s meeting hall.
Lamie’s journey with Ware County EMS began in 2016 when he joined as an EMT-A. Through hard work and determination, he advanced to paramedic and, in 2022, earned the rank of Captain.
Alongside his professional achievements, Lamie completed an associate degree in paramedicine further solidifying his commitment to excellence in emergency care.
A native of Clinch County, he has become a cornerstone of Ware County’s EMS team, admired by colleagues and patients alike.
In a heartfelt letter of nomination, EMS Director Bill Parham praised Lamie’s character and contributions.
“Jamie’s personality set him apart from the first day I met him,” Parham wrote. “Completely relaxed, with outdated manners, he impressed me so much.”
Over nine years, Lamie’s calm demeanor and unwavering integrity have remained unchanged, earning him the respect and affection of those around him.
Initially, Parham hesitated to appoint Lamie as captain, concerned that his kindness might hinder his authority. However, Lamie quickly proved those doubts unfounded.
“He treats his team with respect, is in no way a pushover, but respectfully holds them to account,” Parham noted. Described as “quietly assertive,” Lamie has become a leader that inspires his team to excel—a boss “anyone would love to work for.”
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lamie’s personal life reflects the same warmth and stability. Married to Paige, an esteemed teacher, the couple shares a two-year-old daughter, Maggie, and is expecting a son. Parham mused that Lamie’s grounded nature might stem from “great parents or maybe his walk with Jesus,” adding, “It would fix this world to have many more Jamies.”
Lamie’s impact extends to the patients he serves, delivering care with “competence, compassion, and kindness.” His leadership ensures Ware County EMS continues to provide the highquality service it strives for.
“When he is at the helm, EMS is going to deliver,” Parham affirmed. “Jamie’s performance, as a captain and a man, reflects great honor upon himself and this organization.”
For Ware County, Captain Jamie Lamie is more than a paramedic—he’s a symbol of what dedication and heart can achieve. As the community celebrates his achievement, it’s clear that his legacy of care and leadership will continue to inspire for years to come.
