ALMA — Trace Carter posted a four-under-par round of 68 for medalist honors leading Ware County to the team title here Monday in the 15-team Byron Ray Invitational played at the Blueberry Plantation Golf & Country Club.
The Gators shot a nine-overpar team score of 297 to easily win the March 3 event hosted by Bacon County. Ware County was followed in the Top 10 by Coffee (318), Tift County (320), Berrien “A” (332), Jeff Davis (332), Toombs County (333), Lee County “A” (334), Lee County “B” (338), Thomasville (352) and Thomas County Central (372).
The rest of the field included Metter (377), Valdosta (387), Cook (398), Berrien “B” (404) and host Bacon County (408).
Carter put together nine-hole scores of 33-35 carding seven birdies including three straight (No.2 thru No. 4) to end his day.
Asher Dean’s two-over-par score of 74 (36-38) tied for second. He recorded three birdies. Brody Martin shot 77 (39-38) with an eagle (No. 10) and a birdie.
Jackson Ray posted a 78 (39-39) with two consecutive birdies on his card. Eli Taft shot 84 (41-43) with a birdie.
No report was filed on Ware County’s match Thursday in Jesup at Pine Forest Country Club.
