Thinclads participate in Wayne Co. meet

JESUP — Brantley County High School’s Lady Herons and Herons placed fourth and fifth respectively here at the fiveteam Helen Willis Fluker Invitational hosted by Wayne County in blustery conditions Thursday.

Savannah Arts Academy’s Lady Panthers captured the March 6 girls’ meet with 146 points. They were followed by Charlton County (141), Pierce County (117), Brantley County (80) and the host Lady Yellow Jackets (75).

Charlton County totaled 170.5 points to captured the boys’ meet. The Indians were followed by PCHS (140), host Wayne County (102), Savannah Arts Academy (101) and Brantley County (99.5).

Girls’ meet

Three Lady Herons grabbed first-place laurels with Mallory Crosby (52.92 seconds) winning the 300-meter hurdles, Makayla Dixon (15’3”) capturing the long jump and Mailey Thigpen (88’6”) claiming the discus.

Avery Crews (2:45.31) notched the lone secondplace finish in the 800m event. Posting third-place finishes were Kimora Mincey (29.75 sec.) in the 200m and Crews (6:18) in the 1,600m, Recording fourth-place finishes were Barnes (6:29.35) in the 1,600m, Dixon (27’11”) in the shot put and the 4x100m relay team (59.99 sec.).

Placing fifth were Klara Barnes (2:55.42) in the 800m, Natalie Moore (68’11”) in the discus and Sydnee Davis (27’7”) in the shot put. Finishing sixth was Briar Cothern (22.70 sec.) in the 100m hurdles.

Boys’ meet

Ellis Hartley (116’7”) captured the Herons’ lone first-place title winning the discus.

Posting second-place finishes were Hayze Evans (2:18.10) in the 800m and 1,600m (4:59.02), Malachi Saunders (19’6.5”) in the long jump and Hartley (39’6”) in the shot put.

Placing third were Malachi Saunders (5’8”) in the high jump and the 4x100m relay team (47.93 sec.).

Finishing fourth were Devein Saunders (24.94 sec.) in the 200m, Holton Depratter (53.07 sec.) in the 300m hurdles, Evinrude Green (13:39.97) in the 3,200m, Travon Baker (36’2”) in the shot put and the 4x400m relay team (4:04.77).

Posting fifth-place finishes were Devein Saunders (12.18 sec.) in the 100m and Jayden Simmons (5’2”) in the high jump. Recording sixthplace finishes were Daesean Hutcheson (16’3.5”) in the long jump and Green (5:54.05) in the 1,600m.

Logging seventh-place showings were Wiley Ray (1:06.07) in the 400m, Dylan Lawrence (82’6.5”) in the discus and Hutcheson (12.91 sec.) in the 100m. Depratter (27.13 sec.) finished eighth in the 200m, Bryan Chevalier (1:13.23) was ninth in the 400m and Rude (2:52.97) was 10th in the 800m.
