Arnold leads PCHS to team title at Bearcat Invitational

BAINBRIDGE — Ethan Arnold’s two-over-par round of 74 earned low medalist honors and helped lead Pierce County to the title here Saturday in the 25th annual Bearcat Invitational at the Bainbridge Country Club.

The Bears posted a score of 308 in the 14-team field to win by six shots. PCHS was followed in the Top 10 by Tift County (314), Toombs County (326), Thomasville (329), Thomas County Central (331), Lee County (331), Grace Christian (334), Seminole County (343), Worth County (343) and host Bainbridge (348).

Rounding out the field were Creekside Christian Academy (349), Cairo (353), Northside-Columbus (359) and Valdosta (380).

Arnold put together a score of 37-37-74 with four birdies to win the individual title by one shot over teammate Bennett Puryear’s 38-37-75 (four birdies) and Thomasville’s Palmer McCollum in the field of 70 players.

Hardt Strickland (41-38-79, three birdies) was one of five players posting a score of 79 tying for 11th-place. He was joined the Toombs County duo of Drew Woodruff and Clay Conner, Thomas County Central’s Jakob Burnett and Jack Palmer of Seminole County.

Griffin Hull (39-41-80, birdie) finished in a three-way tie for 16th with Tift County’s Mitchell Kunes and Seminole County’s Nathan Landing.

Barrett Moore (44-45-89, birdie) finished in a three-way tie for 46th with Ellis Denham of Seminole County and Valdosta’s Tripp Perry.

Pierce County next plays Monday, March 17 in Valdosta at the Viking Classic hosted by Lowndes at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
