PCMS linksters 5-0 in defense of 2024 titles

Six-time defending Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference golf champion Pierce County Middle School opened up defense of its titles with victories in the first five matches.

The original first match of the season (February 20) in Jesup was canceled by Wayne County. PCMS scheduled a match for the same date with Vidalia Middle at home.

The VMS girls team scratched. An intra-squad match was played with the Black Bears beating the Royal Bears 217-231.

The Black Bears consisted of Kadence Hale (low medalist — 46), Grayson Harris, Addi Murray, Logan Peacock and Natalee Dixon. The Royal Bears consisted of Rhyan Tompkins, Morgan Hull, Ava Nimmer, Hadley Arington and Sofie Carter.

The Bears beat the Chiefs 188-216. Will Higginson and Cannon Brady led PCMS with scores of 44. Caden Sapp carded a 49 and Elliot Johnson posted a 51 for the team score. Chael Harris shot 57 with Mason Hutcheson finishing with a 63.

The Boys were led by Will Higginson and Cannon Brady with a score of 44, Caden Sapp with a 49, Elliot Johnson with a 51, Chael Harris with a 57 and Mason Hutcheson with a 63.

PCMS hosted Bacon County Middle School and Long County Middle School Monday, February 24.

The Lady Bears shot 101 with the Lady Wildcats’ lone player posting a 77. The Lady Red Raiders did not field a squad.

Hale led with a 50, followed by Tompkins with a 51. Other scores were Harris with a 52, Hull a 53, Murray a 54, Nimmer and Carter with 55s, Peacock a 65, Arington a 66 and Dixon with a 73.

The Bears were victorious shooting 199. Long Middle was second with a 250 with Bacon Middle shooting 262.

Sapp was the low medalist shooting 47. He was followed by Higginson’s 50 and the 51s of Braddy and Johnson. Others participating were Harris with a 56, Hutcheson a 62, Brody Stauffer with a 64 and Gabe Williams a 67.

The third match, Thursday, February 26, was played at the Folkston Golf Club against Bethune Middle School and Brantley County Middle School.

The Lady Bears posted a team score of 95. Brantley Middle shot a 124 with Bethune Middle shooting 140.

Hale claimed medalist honors with a 46 while Harris posted a 49 for the team score. Hull shot a 53 and Tompkins a 57.

The Bears won their three-team match shooting 196. The Herons were second with a 213 with the Braves shooting 236.

Higginson claimed medalist honors carding a 44. He was followed by Sapp’s 46, Braddy’s 51 and Johnson’s 55. Hutcheson shot 61 and Harris 73.

Pierce Middle swept the Tuesday, March 5 match in Jesup against Wayne Middle and Long Middle at Pine Forest Golf Club.

The Lady Bears shot 98 with the Lady Yellow Jackets posting a 104. The Lady Wildcats had just one girls.

Hull claimed medalist honors with a 47. Hale’s 51 finished out the team score. Also playing were Harris with a 52, Tompkins with a 53, Nimmer with a 55 and Murray with a 59.

Higginson paced the Bears with a low medalist round of 42. Sapp and Johnson each shot 47 with Hutcheson’s 57 finishing the team score. Harris posted a 59 and Braddy a 67.
