The Bears’ baseball team will be getting a new bullpen.
The school board approved the construction of the new bullpen and will provide $15,000 for the new project.
Brad Arington of the Dugout Club, the baseball program’s booster organization, gave a presentation on the project at the board’s work session Thursday morning.
Arington said the new bullpen would match one currently in place at the softball field.
Lighting and fencing would be installed to improve safety — something that is lacking in the bullpen at the current baseball field.
Plans call for a 24’ by 90’ all turf bullpen with a tapered mound. The bullpen would feature a six foot fence along the field and 10 foot fence along the outer perimeter.
Arington said the Dugout Club obtained quotes from local vendors and have received an estimate of $30,693.20 for the project.
The school board agreed to pay $15,000 toward the new bullpen and the Dugout Club will provide the balance.
Arington says plans call for the new bullpen to be completed and in use during the current season.
Maintenance director Harbin Farr said some underground water and power lines will need to be rerouted for the site of the new bullpen, but those will be taken care of soon.
The board unanimously approved the project and funding at its regular meeting Monday night.
