Memorial Satilla Health celebrated National Resident’s Day Friday, February 28 by recognizing its Family Medicine program’s six residents.
Residents contract with MSH for two years of training in Family Medicine following their graduation from medical school. Residency is a key component of graduate medical training, offering an indepth exposure to medical practice.
Current residents include Dr. Darnelle Ambo, Dr. Blessy George, Dr. Madhavi Madupuri, Dr. Kimberly Mathurin, Dr. Mary Catherine Stewart, and Dr. Xiang You.
The Gold Humanism Honor Society launched “Thank a Resident Day” in 2018, for programs nationwide to show their gratitude and appreciation for residents.
MSH has been training Family Medicine residents since the program was accredited in 1998. As of June 2024, the program has graduated 45 resident physicians. Several of these physicians continue to practice in Waycross and nearby communities.
More than 70 percent of the program’s graduates remain in practice in Georgia.
“We’re grateful these physicians have chosen a career in Family Medicine, demonstrating their desire to serve the needs of others and provide compassion and continuity of care,” said Caitlyn Smith, residency program coordinator. “By selecting MSH for their training site, our local physicians are given the opportunity to positively impact the future of medicine.”
