Bears third in Valdosta

VALDOSTA — Pierce County’s Bears golf team placed third in their opening tournament here in the Dynamite Goodloe Golf Tournament held at the Valdosta Country Club.

PCHS shot a 305 team score to trail Class 6A winner Colquitt County’s 297 and Class 6A Lowndes’ 298 in the Monday, February 24 event.

Finishing behind Pierce County were Coffee (316), Tift County (319), Lee County (336), Seminole County (343), Berrien (347), Jeff Davis (362), Thomas County Central (366), Worth County (370), Bainbridge (371), Valdosta (391) and Bacon County (401).

Lowndes’ freshman Noah Davis earned medalist honors in the field of 70 players shooting a oneunder- par round of 71 to win by two strokes over Colquitt County’s Leighton Hood and Michael The Bears, who started on holes 11 thru 15, were led by the two-over-par round of senior Ethan Arnold (36-38-74), who tied for fifth with Coffee’s J.P. Spivey. Arnold recorded three birdies.

Sophomore Hardt Strickland (37-38-75, three birdies) finished in a three-way tie for seventh with Jimmy Cohen of Lowndes and Colquitt County’s Calvin Hall.

Senior Sauel Ricketson (39-39-78, two birdies) and freshman Bennett Puryear (39-39-78, birdie) tied for 16th. Sophomore Justin Smith (40-43-83) tied for 24th with three other players.

The Bears head to Bainbridge Saturday, March 8 to play in the 25th annual Bearcat Invitational at the Bainbridge Country Club.
