Chronicles of Scarlett O’Dara

Chronicles of

Dear Readers,

One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies, “The Wizard of OZ” occurs at the very end when Dorothy emotionally states: “There’s no place like home!” This is the absolute Gospel truth! I must say that I have had many episodes these last few months when I could hear the Wicked Witch of the West screeching, “I’m melting!” and felt like I was the one doing the melting.

It would take several volumes to give you the detailed updates since June, 2024 and no doubt you would find some, if not most of it, tedious and boring after a while. All I can say is from the time Rhett and I decided to “retire”, we have been on a roller coaster ride that would exhaust the young and the brave, of which we are neither.

Quick captions include weddings, funerals, 50year college reunions, two major real-estate transactions, falls, spinal surgeries and, last but not least, learning to survive on Social Security, which is not social or secure!

I don’t mean to sound angry, spiteful, or complaining regarding the character building events the Lord has bestowed upon us, and I know what the Word says about not being given more than you can handle. I have learned to never utter the words, “What next, Lord?” He will indeed show you! He must think we are two tough old birds!

To get back to the point, with all the traveling, planning, packing and unpacking and post trip laundry, it is ever so nice to pull into the driveway at Tara and know that once Rhett gets the truck unloaded, we can relax and sleep in our own bed. He won’t let me help due to my propensity to fall between the vehicle and the steps. I just had my last visit with the podiatrist today from my fall down the steps two years ago on the way to buy a toilet seat at Lowe’s one rainy morning. He said I had a miracle healing of the torn tendon. I am thankful. The back pain from the turned over China cabinet at Thanksgiving is nearly completely gone. I am steering clear of the grandfather clock though.

Well, a new batch of adventures begins tomorrow morning. It’s off to Lowe’s again to shop for a small electric lawn mower. We had to let our yard man go back in November, due to the reduction in income. Social Security doesn’t leave much for yard maintenance. I might just swing by the toilet seat aisle just in case they have some new and improved models! There is no place like home! Sincerely,

Scarlett
