Lady Herons finish third at Jekyll Jam tournament
Brantley County’s Lady Heron tennis team closed out the first month of the season winning five of six matches including a thirdplace finish at the 31st annual Jekyll Jam.
The Lady Herons slipped past Lowndes 3-2 Thursday, February 20. They posted a 3-2 victory against Columbus High in the first round of the Jekyll Jam Friday, February 21.
Oconee County handed BCHS a 4-1 setback Saturday, February 22 in the semifinals. The Lady Herons bounced back to knock of LaGrange 4-1 in the consolation bracket.
Brantley County opened region play winning 4-1 Tuesday, February 25 at Thomasville. The Lady Herons knocked off Jeff Davis 3-2 at home Thursday, February 27.
The BCHS jayvee had three players go undefeated in matches against Thomasville and Jeff Davis. Both Cheryl Tenza and Brodie Allen 2-0 went 2-0 while Louna Zakaria won her only match.
BCHS traveled Tuesday, March 4 to Worth County and will host Berrien Thursday, March 6. The Lady Herons will play Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 in Valdosta in the Lowndes Viking Invitational.

VALDOSTA — A sweep of the singles action with just three games lost lifted the Lady Herons over Class 6A Lowndes.
Brooklyn Wildes had the closed singles match winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Raylee Strickland posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Haley Jane Smith notched a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Harlee Driggers and Savannah Carroll lost 6-1, 62 with the No. 2 duo of Brenna Gilder and Lonny Zakaris falling 6-1, 6-1.

JEKYLL ISLAND — Brantley County captured two 10-point, third-set tiebreakers in sweeping the singles matches to clinch the win.
Wildes rallied past Kate Greer 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 at No. 1 with Strickland holding off Rachel Tilleny 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 2. Smith eased past Katleyn Nix 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to seal the team win.
Summer Colley and Driggers fell 6-2, 6-4 to Haley Heard and Molly Gobbel at No. 1 doubles while the No. 2 team of Bri Crews and Carroll fell 6-1, 6-0 to Elaine Lynch and Riley Faircloth.

JEKYLL ISLAND — Oconee County won three of its four matches in straight sets to beat the Lady Herons.
Wildes lost a third-set tie-breaker falling 6-4, 06, 10-7 to Cadence Keese at No. 1. Strickland fell 64, 7-5 at No. 2 to Jenny Hu. Smith recorded the lone win at No. 3 beating Mary Linda Veit 6-4, 6-3.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Brodie Allen and Colley lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Neetyeo Patel and Ellie Johnson with the No. 2 duo of Gilder and Driggers falling 6-2, 6-0.

JEKYLL ISLAND — The Lady Herons sealed the victory with a sweep of the singles against the Lady Grangers.
Wildes blanked Ana Rolling 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Strickland knocked off Anna Lumpkin 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Smith finished off the sweep outlasting Dana Song 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Colley and Crews recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Ava Wallace and Addison Adams. The No. 2 team of Carroll and Driggers fell 6-3, 6-3 to Madi Del Ansel and Yerim Kim.

THOMASVILLE — Brantley County had a relative easy time with the Lady Bulldogs winning all four matches in straight sets.
Wildes blanked Ella Rodd 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 with Strickland posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Ruby Do. Smith completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Kamrya Shokat at No. 3.
Colley and Crews poted a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Addison Johnson and Trinity Do. Carroll and Driggers fell at No. 2 in a third-set tie-breaker 7-5, 1-6, 7-4 to Payten Mustain and Nephetile Wooten.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons secured the in with a sweep of the singles while Jeff Davis claimed both doubles matches.
Wildes clipped Cori Mims 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1. Strickland recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Lila Walters. Smith posted a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Colley and Crews fell 61, 6-3 to Ava Coleman and Presley Coa with the No. 2 team of Carroll and Driggers dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Caylin Carter and Skye Sellers.
