City man charged with murder, assault

A Waycross man has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection to a shooting earlier this year, Waycross Police Major Danny Hampton said.

Zachary Seth Roberson, 36, of Waycross, was arrested and charged February 15 in the death of Broderick Wright, 37, of Waycross, resulting from a shooting early on the morning of January 18. Also wounded in the incident was Mikeem Lee, 31, of Waycross.

Other charges against Roberson also are expected, Hampton said.

WPD officers responded around 3:43 a.m. January 18 to a call reporting men in the 1500 block of Azalea Avenue had been shot, Hampton said. When the officers arrived, they found Lee and Wright injured with apparent gunshot wounds.

Ware County Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene, and both shooting victims were transported to Memorial Satilla Health for emergency treatment.

Lee was seriously wounded and survived while Wright was pronounced dead at the hospital from his wounds.

Hampton said initial investigation of the incident led authorities several blocks away from where the victims were found.

He said it appeared that may have been the location of the shooting, and it appeared the men traveled in a vehicle to the Azalea Avenue location before stopping.

After further investigation by WPD Detectives, additional evidence was gathered which led to Roberson’s arrest. Hampton said the investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has any information about the incident, WPD asks they please contact the detectives office at (912) 287-2929 or the tip line at (912) 287-2924.
