MOULTRIE — Pierce County’s two-person team of Mackenzie Connell and Chloe Lynn shot a blistering 7-under-par score of 65 to capture the Lady Packer Invitational here Saturday at Sunset Country Club.
The February 22 tournament field, hosted by Colquitt County, consisted of 37 teams from 18 schools playing a scramble format.
The PCHS duo posted nine-hole scores of 32-33 recording eight birdies with a bogey in winning by a shot over Lowndes. Smith’s Station, Ala., recorded the only other red figure score posting a 71.
“It is finally golf season and we (team) couldn’t be happier,” said head coach Stuart Stipe. “The twoman scramble was the perfect format to kickoff our competitive schedule. I loved seeing the girls compete together as partners.
“It was so satisfying to watch them feed off of each other's energy and offer support through adversity. This is a special group of girls and we look forward to a memorable season.”
The Lady Bears’ tandem of Brooke Dixon and Belle Sinclair placed sixth with a round of 75 (39-36). The pair had three birdies, four bogies and a double on their scorecard.
Mollie Kate Dixon team up with a player from Dunwoody finishing with a round of 84 (43-41). The duo recorded an eagle to go along with eight bogies and three doubles.
Other schools represented were host Colquitt County, Coffee, Tift County, Brookstone, Dunwoody, Columbus, Seminole County, Lee County, Bainbridge, Thomas County Central, Berrien, Seminole County and Grace Christian.
PCHS will participate Saturday, March 1 at the Red Ryder Invitational hosted by Glynn Academy on Jekyll Island.
“Each tournament we play in offers valuable experience that will hopefully prove beneficial at our Area and state tournaments,” added Stipe.
