Deputy fire chief Lee turns in resignation

Michelle Lee has resigned as the county’s deputy fire chief and deputy Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director after less than five months on the job.

Commissioners accepted Lee’s resignation at their regular monthly meeting last Tuesday night.

Commissioners did not elaborate on the resignation. Lee cited scheduling conflicts as her reason for stepping down.

Lee was just hired for the job in February.

She has most recently served as the EMA director in neighboring Brantley County.

Lee succeeded former deputy fire chief and EMA director Chuck Yeargin. Yeargin was promoted to county clerk last year. Yeargin is currently serving a deployment with the U.S. Coast Guard.
