Special to The Beacon WAYCROSS — Nahunta Elementary School sixth-graders Maya Slover and Caiden Bass won the Grand Champion ribbon and a $1,000 scholarship for their project here at the recent SGSC Region Science Fair.
The Brantley County School System had a banner day. Several of the projects will compete in the state-level competition.
Josie Harris and Read Thomas finished second place overall. Emily Perry placed third in the Junior Physical Science Projects. Chloe Edwards took home a fourth-place ribbon for her project in the 4th/5th project category.
“The science fair is a valuable opportunity for students to develop critical thinking and problemsolving skills through hands-on investigation,” said Katie Antczak, one of the system judges for Brantley’s Science Fair and Okefenokee RESA Science Specialist/Director of Education at Okefenokee Swamp Park. “It encourages curiosity, creativity, and the ability to communicate scientific ideas–skills that are essential for future success in STEM fields.
“Seeing students apply the scientific method to real-world problems is inspiring, and their success at the region level highlights the strength of our local science education community.”
