
Dean Hershel Hendrix Jr., 82, of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 19, 2025, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.
Born December 20, 1942, in Waycross, he was a son of the late Dean Hershel Hendrix Sr. and Willine Harris Hendrix. Having grown up in Waycross, he graduated from Ware County High School and then joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas and Illinois. He then moved to Conyers and worked many years as a phone technician with BellSouth before retiring and moving to Pierce County in 2004.
He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Conyers but attended Hacklebarney Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Maxine Lloyd Hendrix; two brothers and a sister-in-law, the Rev. Frank Hendrix and William (Susan) Hendrix; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Paul) Smith and a brother-in-law, Donald Trull.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Heather Hendrix and Gene White, Eatonton; two grandchildren, Brandon White (wife Abby), Statham, and Madi Smith (husband Kody), Colbert; two great-grandchildren, Levi White and Lily Smith; sister, Dot Trull, Blackshear; sister-in-law, Pamela Hendrix, Dry Branch and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Kettle Creek Cemetery in Waycross.
