Pierce County Recreation Administration Offices have been closed after a building inspection found serious issues with the facility.
County Manager Bryan Singleton confirmed the recreation administration office, located at the recreation complex on Ware Street, has been closed and staff there has been moved to a temporary location in the Courthouse Annex on Nicholls Street.
The staff will not remain there long, however.
“I am currently in the process of locating a modular building for the recreation department’s administration offices,” said Singleton.
Singleton said plans are to put the modular office building at the Ware Street Complex to house the staff.
Singleton calls the decision to close the offices “the right move”.
“A termite inspection last week revealed some damage, and the recreation board and commission made the right move to temporarily relocate the staff until a suitable modular office can be placed,” he said.
Singleton said the rec board and commission will be reviewing long term options over the next few weeks.
The inspection, conducted by Reid Diversified Inc. of Waycross, found more than termite damage.
The report was presented to the recreation board last Tuesday morning and to commissioners Tuesday night, though it was not publicly disclosed at the county commission’s regular meeting that night.
The report examined and inspected the administration offices and concession stand. Numerous deficiencies were identified including the fact the facilities are not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), had significant water damage, mold, roofing and electrical issues and the air conditioning system is past its life expectancy.
