No. 7 WCHS diamond crew opens with three victories

Seventh-ranked Ware County opened its 2025 campaign winning three times including twice at home.

The Gators (3-0) followed an 8-0 no-hit scrimmage loss at Class 5A Effingham County Thursday, February 6 with a season-opening 10-4 win Monday, February 10 in Moultrie against Class 6A Colquitt County.

Ware County followed a night later beating Class 5A Coffee High 8-3 in the 2025 home opener. The Gators ended the busy opening week with a 12-2 victory in six innings Friday night, February 14 over Class A Division I No. 5 Toombs County Ware County traveled Tuesday, February 18 to Lyons to wrap up the season series with the Bulldogs in the opener of a three-game road trip. The Gators follow today (Wednesday, February 19) with a date in Douglas against Coffee in the series finale.

Ware County goes to Class A Division I Thomasville Tuesday, February 25 for a 5:30 p.m. start. Class AA top-ranked Appling County visits Friday, February 28 at 6 p.m.

MOULTRIE — Ware County spotted the Packers a 4-1 lead before plating the final nine runs over a four-inning stretch for the win.

Four Gators had multi-hit games led by the 3-for-5 performance of Seth Suess. Walker Hudson (2-for-2, double), Cole Cox (2-for-4) and Luke Hooks (2-for-4) contributed to the 12hit attack.

Evan Joiner (double), Evan Pearson (double) and Collin Crawford banged out a hit apiece.

Logan Hatcher (3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) and Seuss (3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP) worked three innings each in relief of Pearson (1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 K, 0 BB, 1 HBP).

Ware County struck for a first inning run getting a lead off double from Joiner and a twoout single off the bat of Cox for a 1-0 lead.

The Packers responded with a three-run first and added its final run in the second in grabbing a 4-1 advantage. Colquitt County scored its first run on a sacrifice bunt and a two-out, two-run single in taking a 3-1 lead.
