When we study Black History, we discover great leaders from our past who laid foundations for our future. They included Dr. Charles Richard Drew, Mary McLeod Bethune, Maya Angelou, John Lewis in the past and for the future we have Barack Obama, Derrick Johnson, Tim Scott, Raphael Warnock and Kamala Harris.

***** The 30th annual Black History and Cowboy Day will be held Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22.

The event will be held at 3093 Cherry Street in Blackshear.

Events get underway at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 with Bingo at Lee Street Resource Center, 623 Sycamore Street, Blackshear.

Saturday’s activities will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. The trail ride will be the highlight of the weekend.

ATVs and UTVs are welcome. Entry fee is $15.

A meal, entertainment and games will follow the trail ride at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Events include horse shoes, a bounce house and karaoke.

Genesis 1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 2: And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. So, it had to be the Lord that has bought us, this far, 30 long, wonderful years without harm, just God’s unchanging grace and mercy. The Indians called the Black Cavalry men buffalo soldiers because the troopers had thick, black, curly hair. Also, the troopers wore buffalo skin coats during winter campaigns.

For more information, contact, call (912) 5524243. ***** Session Hill Community Center will be have a Black History Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 23. The service will be held at the Session Hill Community Center at 3105 Allen Ave., Blackshear.

Theme will be “The Past and the Present”. For more information, contact Jacqueline Wallace. ***** St. James Missionary Baptist Church will be having spring revival Monday March 3- Wednesday March 5. Services will be at 7 p.m. The church is located at 3124 Washington Lane Patterson. There will be various speakers each night. Bishop A. Wilmont Williams is the pastor.

Come and worship with us. ***** The Gates Church will host Gospel Music History Salutes from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Waycross Ballroom. Tickets are $25 each.

The Love Ball will feature tuxedos and gowns and a dinner and awards show. Awards include Southeast Georgia Legends, Community Service Awards, Recording Artist and Producer, Pastor, Community Leader, Music director, worship leader, musician, creative leader, on air radio personality and educator.

The event honors the Southeast Gospel Industry Network (GIN) which includes Pierce, Bacon, Coffee, Ware and Wayne Counties.

Bishop Kenneth Wells is the chief executive officer and national president and Dr. Deborah Brown is national director.

For more information, call (912) 406-1478. ***** The Gates Church will host the Church Girls Rock Pink Prayer and Praise Pajama Party from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, March 14, at 6014 Homestead Road, Blackshear. The event will include creative and performing arts sessions in piano, voice, dance and drama as well as food, movies, arcade games and fun.

The Drumline and Marching Band fever hits Pierce and Ware Counties for all youth from ages five-19. All will learn performance skills to perform in parades, on drumline, dance and brass instruments.
