Planning commission will recommend re-zoning for new homes and new business

The Pierce County Planning Commission unanimously approved recommendations for a new subdivision, new duplexes and a new electrical company.

The approvals came during the planning commission’s regular monthly meeting last Monday morning.

Clay Thomas and Michael D’Ambrosio with Grey Jax Investments, LLC, have applied for rezoning 39 acres from agriculture/forestry to single family.

Grey Jax Investments LLC, plans to build a subdivision on the property.

One resident said he believed the plans call for two many houses and that the lots should be bigger, but did not oppose the change in zoning.

Weston Cason with J.W. Cason Investments LLC has applied for a rezone from single family to multi-family for a 1.18 acre parcel on Moore Street.

J.W. Cason Investments plans to build duplex apartments on the site.

Jordan DuPont with Southern Land Investments, LLC, has asked for a rezone from multi-family to neighborhood commercial for three acres on a 26.26 acre tract on Riggins Road. The remaining 23 acres will be changed to agriculture/forestry.

Plans call for the construction of an electrical company on the property.

Another resident asked questions about all three rezoning applications asking about how many duplexes on Moore Street, how many chemicals would be dumped and how much traffic would increase on Riggins Road.

The planning commission voted to recommend all three rezoning requests for approval. All three requests will now be forwarded to the county commission for a final vote.

The county commission will vote on the requests during their March regular meeting. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agricultural Building (SEGARAC).
