Reports: Finance Director Melanie Helms gave the system’s financial report. The school system reported revenue of $17.1 million and expenses of $19.5 million through December. The system had $9.9 million in reserves. Helms noted in her report that the system had to dip into reserves, but she said local tax revenues will be reflected in next month’s report and the revenue and expenditures will even out again.
She reported the system’s sales tax revenue was a record high $273,462 in December, up $4,100 from November, which was also a record high. The increase in sales tax revenues has been attributed to increased spending after Hurricane Helene and during the Christmas season. School activity accounts were also presented and reviewed. The board approved the financial reports as presented.
