Patterson to purchase newer firetruck with SPLOST funds

Patterson will be getting a new fire truck.

The city council approved the purchase of a 1998 Freightliner fire truck during its regular monthly meeting last Thursday evening.

The truck will be purchased from Fire Tech in the amount of $15,000. Funds for the purchase of the truck will come from the city’s special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) account.

Fire chief Tyler Stokes says the truck is a 1998 model with only 42,000 miles on it. The truck has been in service in Michigan. It has a five-man cab, double the water capacity and plenty of storage space for equipment compared to the city’s current truck, which is a 1972 twoman Mack fire truck.
