John Samuel  ‘Sam’ Youmans

John Samuel “Sam” Youmans, 72, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning, February 12, 2025, at his residence.
Born in Blackshear February 18, 1952, Sam had lived all of his life in Pierce County. He worked as a meat cutter at Lairsey’s before moving on to Reid, Inc. as a diesel mechanic.  He was the owner/operator of Youmans Tractor Service for several years, before taking a job with Utilities Construction Company.  He finally settled into a job with Satilla REMC, from which he would retire after many years of dedicated service. As with any typical mechanic, he loved to work on trucks in his spare time. He also enjoyed traveling and finding interesting spots to camp, but his most enjoyable pastime was spent with his kids and grandkids, who he loved very much. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Ander Eugene Youmans and Susie Oglesby Youmans Thornton.  He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Lawton Thornton; a grandson, Eric Moore; all four of his brothers, Randall, Tommy, Andy and Jimmy Youmans; an infant sister and a brother-in-law, Danny Holloway.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Wanda Whitley Youmans,  Blackshear; a daughter, Sandra (Lester) Roberts, Blackshear; three sons, Stevie (Kandi) Moore, Blackshear, Manuel Reeves, Massillon, OH, and Jamie (Angela) Taylor, Waycross; a sister, Linda Holloway, Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Carol Youmans, Blackshear; seven grandchildren, Anna Roberts, Anthony Moore, Garret Taylor, Megan Moore, MacKenzie Taylor, Emory Reeves and Brantley Reeves; one great-grandson, Keagan Kniceley and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel with the Rev. Randall Gunter and  theRev. John Sasser officiating.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Gene Taylor, Romeo Reyes, Authur Carter, Kenny Peacock, Michael Strickland and Bentley Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Satilla REMC and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
