Ware County Fire and Rescue used the “Jaws of Life” last week to free a Florida man from his vehicle after it collided with a tractor-trailer, the Ware County Sheriff’s Office said.

William Lindsey, 37 of Lee, Fla., was rescued from his 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, after it ran underneath the trailer of the semi driven by Quanterrius Rashad Josey, 35 of Bristol, Fla., at the intersection of Ga. 122 and Ga. 520, authorities said.

Ware County Fire and Rescue Chief Dee Meadows said 11 personnel from three fire units responded to the 5:03 a.m. collision Thursday, February 6. He said multiple responders used rescue tools to complete a “lengthy” extracation with Ware County EMS standing by to administer aid.

“We had the latest equipment out there,” said Meadows, also the senior officer on the scene. “We had multiple rescue tools being operated simultaneously (to complete the extracation.) It was a challenge.”

After being freed, Lindsey was transported by Ware County EMS to Memorial Satilla Health for treatment of multiple injuries, the accident report said.

Ware County Sheriff’s Sgt. Craig Colley was dispatched to the scene of the accident to find Lindsey trapped in his pickup, the front of which was under the trailer in the intersection.

Josey, driving a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia, was traveling east on Ga. 122 when a witness at the scene told Sgt. Colley the truck driver failed to stop at a stop sign and continued into the intersection. Lindsey collided with the truck in the intersection.

Neither Josey nor his passenger, Lashaydra Deneshia Crumity, 24, of Tallahassee, complained of injuries from the collision, the report said.

Trooper Cameron York of the Georgia State Patrol handled investigation of the accident.
