Hearts Around the USA was started a few years ago by teachers, schools and parents who wanted to make a greater connection between students and U.S. geography.
Valentine cards were sent to schools across the country and a sticker was placed on maps indicating where the cards came from.
Each card or letter served not only as an educational tool, but also a heartwarming token of love and support. Hearts Around the U.S.A. continues today with many schools participating.
Residents and staff at Baptist Village Retirement Community (J. Olan Jones building) are taking part in a similar global project called Hearts Around the World. The goal is to receive Valentine’s Day cards and letters from all 50 states, and possibly other countries.
Once the cards and letters are received, heartshaped stickers will be placed on a map so residents can see how far the notes of love have come.
“How exciting for everyone to see that love has no boundaries, and no distance is too far to show love and support to each other,” said Baptist Village Director of Administrative Services Denean Swords.
Director of Activities Lori Brown added, “We’re so excited our residents have the opportunity to participate this year. We’ve already received some cards, and we can’t thank the community enough for helping make this a successful event for our residents. The fruit of our efforts will be shared with the public on our Facebook page following completion of our big day.”
Baptist Village welcomes cards and letters from near and far. If you would like to show residents they are thought of in this season of love, send correspondence by Friday, February 14 to Baptist Village c/o Activities Department, 2650 Carswell Avenue, 31503.
