Republic Services will not have its Solid Waste contract with Brantley County, according to County Manager Joey Cason.
According to Cason, the county will soon begin sending RFQs (Request for Quotes) to replace Republic services, whose contract expires May 1.
“We (commission) have notified Republic via certified mail we will not be renewing the agreement and we will be putting out a request for bid on garbage services,” Cason told commissioners during the Tuesday, February 4 meeting. “We have been asked by Ryland, which is one of their competitors, to try to get the RFQ out as quickly as possible.” Cason said he will send out emails and post bid advertisements on the county website by Friday, Feb. 7.
“Ryland would like us to even have a bid day,” said Cason. “That would be if we potentially could have a called meeting or something before the end of the month. Ryland said it would help them, if they were to get the contract, move forward because they’ll have to hire people and buy equipment if they were to take over May 1.”
