Ralph Hampton Dixon Sr, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 9, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Blackshear February 8, 1929, he graduated from Blackshear High School in 1949. He lived most of his life in Hinesville where he was an active member of the First Baptist Church since 1972 and a member of the Golden Heirs and Wisdom Seekers. He was a dedicated member of the church choir and was an active deacon of the church since 1973. He was the chairman of the deacons for about 10 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was known as Papa by the children and adults in the church. He loved everyone and enjoyed spending time with family, his church family and friends. He was the most loving, sweetest father and he was loved so much by many. He was an active member of the Democratic Party and served as the chairman of the Democratic Party for three years and 1st Vice Chairman for four years. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, retired in 1971, and continued his career in civil service on Ft. Stewart. He retired from civil service in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Dixon; his loving wife of 66 years, Jacqueline Waters Dixon; brothers, J.L. Dixon, Willie Dixon, Morris Dixon, Carl Dixon, George Dixon and Dewey Dixon; one sister, Jeannette Dixon Ware; one son-in-law, David Flory and one daughter-in-law, Angie Clark Dixon.
Survivors include his children, Debra Dixon Doan (John), Ralph H. Dixon Jr., Sandra Dixon Spikes, Linda Dixon Thompson, most all from Hinesville and one from St. Simons; grandchildren, Shawn Niksch, Chris Niksch, Nikki Gaskin, Joey Dixon (Whitnie), Jennie Samuels (Jason), Justin Harriman, Geoffrey Harriman (Ashley), Melissa Guyett (George), Michael Padrick (Kelly), Whitney Griffin, Jerrid Thompson (Denise) and Kennon Thompson; great-grandchildren, Alaina, Brooke, Emery, Shelane, Elizabeth, Kyle, Grady, Logan, Hanna, Jared, Zachary, Evan, Addison, Josephine, Tristan and Catherine, and one great-great-grandchild, River.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at First Baptist Church, 220 Memorial Drive, Hinesville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 14, from the First Baptist Church of Hinesville.
Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Waters Cemetery, 3128 Midway Church Road, Blackshear.
