Long graduated members of the 1958 class of Waycross High School are still active in 'thinking of others and wanting to help others,'' according to class director Beth Herrin McClelland. Pictured right, Mrs. McClelland presents a check for $577 to Ken Taft, chairman of the board of directors for Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless. “We have left-over money from our 1958 treasury and wanted to help this great organization which definitely helps others, the homeless,” Mrs. McClelland said. Present to share in the presentation are ‘58 class members (l-r) Emily Hendry Aguirre, Martha Clifton Frier and Nickie Carswell Carter. Taft thanked the ladies for their 'generous gift” and invited them to attend the next OATH event, a fundraising luncheon Friday, Feb. 28 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the C. C. McCray City Auditorium. “Those interested in attending are invited to call 912-816-4399. At this time guests will learn what OATH does. It is called Hearts for the Homeless,” Taft said. “Our OATH office is open from Monday through Thursday on Albany avenue. We always welcome donations of food and monies and appreciate them and our special volunteers.”
