‘A Night to Shine’ held at Blackshear First Baptist

Everyone was red carpet ready as they entered Blackshear’s first Night to Shine event, a prom for teens and adults with special needs.

Hosted by ONE Church, which includes First Baptist Church and Destination Church of Blackshear and Zion Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Millwood, the event took place in the MAC Building at First Baptist. Begun by the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine takes place each Friday before Valentine’s Day.

Cheerleaders and others lined each side of the runway leading to the venue, loudly welcoming or if requested, quietly greeting each new arrival, making them feel like a star. Several attendees leaned into the star treatment, waving to the crowd, striking a pose or showing off their dance moves as the mood took them.

Event volunteers, local police and the fire department were on hand to assist with traffic or any emergencies. The ultimate goal, though, was for those in attendance have a night to remember.
