Huey Purdom Davis Sr., 87, of Blackshear, passed away early Thursday morning, February 6, 2025, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born March 2, 1937, in Pierce County, he was a son of the late Elmer Randall and Myrtle Henderson Davis. He lived all of his life in “The Forks of the Hurricane” and was a 1955 graduate of Blackshear High School. He retired as a State of Georgia Corrections Farm Supervisor and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
He was a longtime member of the Blackshear Masonic Lodge #270, the Waycross York Rite Bodies and a Shriner. He was a recipient of the Judge Steve Jackson Community Service Award and served on Governor Joe Frank Harris’ Executive Advisory Committee.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed quail hunting and fishing. He would often be found at the Davis Fish-camp on the Little Hurricane Creek. For many years he hosted, as the creator and founder, the world renowned “Hurricane Men’s Club”, having card toting members across the globe. At Davis Fish-camp, he hosted the Annual Fourth of July, Davis Family and Community BBQ and the Waycross Judicial Circuit Meeting in the fall.
He enjoyed studying genealogy and tracing his lineage. As the devoted patriarch of his family, he will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Drummond and a sister-in-law, Dale Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Glenda Davis, Blackshear; two children, Kathy Davis, Sarasota, FL and Huey P. Davis Jr., Blackshear; three grandchildren, Alisa Davis, Fort Collins, CO, Huey “Trey” Davis, III (wife Kandice), Blackshear and Jet Jackson Lee, Sarasota, FL; two great grandchildren, Houston Paul Davis and Hannah Leigh Davis, both of Blackshear; two brothers, Gene Davis (wife Margie), Alma and Paul Davis, Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Beulah Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 9, from the Beulah Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in the Beulah Baptist Cemetery.
