JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cecilia Irene Moore Turner passed away on October 9, 2024 after extensive health difficulties. She was a patient at St. Vincent’s South in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. Turner (Tena, Tina, or Tener as her sibl ings called her) was born Sept ember 12, 1945 in Waycross. She graduated from Ware County High School in 1963.
Mrs. Turner won a sizable scholarship to go to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton to study Home Economics. She worked in the cafeteria to help pay for her schooling.
For approximately 35 years, Mrs. Turner worked at Sears in Atlanta and Jacksonville in the auditing department. She could work an adding machine as fast as some people could play a piano In 1992, she married James Wesley Turner of Waycross. They were happily married for 32 years living in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. Turner participated in the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair several times entering the cooking contests. Mr. Turner entered his SPAM recipe and placed high, receiving a blue ribbon. Mrs. Turner received several ribbons for her entries in cooking.
While in high school, Mrs. Turner presented many entries in cooking and canning foods at the Waycross Exchange Club Fair. She was always a winner in several categories. Mrs. Turner worked in 4-H a great deal and even taught younger girls, one being her sister.
Mrs. Turner was the daughter of C. R. and Irene Youmans Moore of Waycross. Her siblings are David Moore of Dublin, Ga., Kester Moore and Barbara Burke of Waverly, Ga., Cynthia Moore Guinn (Jerome) of Kingsland, Ga., Sylvia Moore Dawson (deceased) of Niceville, Fla., Zelda Moore McNeal (Gary) of Waycross and Kenny Moore (Teresa) of LaGrange, Ga.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, at Ben James Primitive Baptist Church in the social hall. A catered lunch will be served afterward.
