The search for a new, permanent county manager has started over.
Commissioners voted at last Tuesday’s monthly meeting to start over with the process of hiring a new manager.
The most recent county manager search ended in March of this year after the commissioners and the sole finalist for the job, Joey Cason, were unable to come to terms on a contract.
The permanent position has been open since the resignation of former manager Jason Rubenbauer in November, 2022.
The manager’s position has been filled on an interim basis by Chuck Scragg and Bryan Singleton.
Scragg decided to retire and moved to Dallas, GA, in March. Singleton has said he will stay on until the new manager is hired, but he does not intend to apply for the job. Singleton says he will be returning to South Carolina to be near his family.
Commissioners agreed to handle the search in house in lieu of hiring a firm to conduct the search for them.
County chairman Neal Bennett said the county will begin advertising for applications for a new county manager soon, perhaps as early as this week.
There is no time table for when a new county manager will be hired.
