Hall of Fame to induct 5 March 28

Five outstanding local athletes were elected recently by the Waycross-Ware County Sports Hall of Fame (SHOF) Board of Directors to take their place of honor among the other 207 local individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame over the past 39 years.

The Class of 2025 includes Joe Bennett, a legendary recreation youth coach, football greats Nakia Benefield, Steven A. Daniels and Marshard McKnight, legendary track star Bruce Jamison and baseball great Bryant Hayman (posthumously) make up the class.

All will be honored during the 39th annual Waycross-Ware County Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet Friday, March 28, at the C.C. McCray City Auditorium.

“The Board of Directors did an outstanding job this year and we are looking forward to inducting this amazing group into the Hall of Fame,” said SHOF President Tony Tanner. “It’s an extraordinary class of great athletes and an amazing coach. We’re so excited and look forward to visiting with each of these individuals and their guests as they’re officially inducted into the Hall.

“We invite the public to join us for a night of celebration honoring their athletic accomplishments. It’s always a delight to hear from each of them during their acceptance remarks. You never know what they might say, but based on previous years, we will likely be treated to a bit of reminiscing that takes us back to the day. Hope to see you there!”

Banquet tickets can be purchased at PrimeSouth Bank starting Monday, February 10 until Wednesday, March 25. Bank hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
