Lady Herons open one-game lead in standings with sweep

Brantley County improved its winning streak to three games turning back Jeff Davis and Berrien in the lone action of the week.

The Lady Herons (15-5 overall, 9-1 region), who hold a one-game lead over Worth County, won for the ninth time in 10 games Tuesday, January 28 finishing off a season sweep of homestanding Jeff Davis (7-11, 2-6) recording a 5318 whipping of the Lady Yellow Jackets. Brantley County rolled to a 47-11 win in the January 11 meeting at home.

Brantley County finished off the season sweep Friday, January 31 of Berrien (2-20, 1-10), losers in 15 of its last 16 games, beating the Lady Rebels 54-31 on Senior Night. The Lady Herons notched a 73-21 decision January 14 in Nashville.

BCHS closes out the regular season this week with three road games. The Lady Herons traveled Tuesday, February 4 to Sylvester to face Worth County. They go Friday, February 7 to Alma to meet Bacon County. The season finale is Saturday, February 8 in Bearville against Pierce County.

Lady Herons............53 Jeff Davis.................18 HAZLEHURST — The Lady Herons held Jeff Davis to six points or less in each quarter to roll to the victory.

BCHS built a doubledigit lead in the first eight minutes at 15-4. The Lady Herons doubled up Jeff Davis 12-6 in the second stanza to take a 27-10 to the locker room.

Brantley County continued to widen its margin in the third period outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets 145 opening up a 41-15 advantage. BCHS outpointed Jeff Davis 12-3 over the final quarter.

Summer Colley (three assists, two rebounds, two steals) scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Lady Herons. Abbie Lee (teamhigh seven steals, six rebounds, three assists) and Ayaniah Davenport (six rebounds, three steals, assist) bagged nine points and eight points respectively.

Kimora Mincey (teamhigh nine rebounds, three steals) followed with six points. Riana Dennard (team-leading four assists, three rebounds) netted five points. Brodie Allen (two rebounds, two steals) contributed four points with Mia Kate Bates (steal) adding three points.

Tamiyah Coley (three rebounds, two steals) and Edi Lowther (five rebounds) each scored two points. Ella Highsmith (three rebounds, assist, steal) bagged a free throw.

Lady Herons............54 Berrien ....................31 CANEY BAY — Brantley County outscored visiting Berrien in all but one quarter to record the win.

The Lady Herons stormed out to an 18-4 first quarter advantage. BCHS outpointed Berrien 11-8 in the second period taking a 29-12 lead into intermission.

Brantley County used a 13-7 scoring advantage in the third stanza to extend its lead to commanding 4219 margin. Each team scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Dennard (four steals, two rebounds) poured in a game-high and career-high 17 points to pace Brantley County. Highsmith (three steals) recorded a doubledouble scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds.

Colley (team-leading six steals, team-high three assists, three rebounds) and Davenport (11 rebounds, five steals) were next with nine points and eight points respectively. Lee (nine rebounds, two assists, steal) chipped in four points.

Coley (four rebounds, three steals, two assists) and Lowther (rebound, assist) contributed two points apiece. Mincey (seven rebounds, two steals, two assists) added a free throw.
