Russell Eugene Bennett, 67, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 4, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
Born in Jacksonville, FL December 18,1955, he lived most of his life there before moving to Pierce Co. in 2007. A 1973 graduate of Englewood High School, he later became a diesel mechanic working for Coastal Power. He loved working on cars and trucks and taking care of his cows. He was a big NASCAR fan, with Bill Elliott being his favorite driver.
He was of the Christian faith.
He was the son of the late Edward Daniel “Ed” Bennett Sr. and Patricia Ann Dobbs Cunningham. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Sally Ann Parrish Bennett; a sister, Mary Jean Bennett and both of his brothers, Harley D. Bennett and Edward Daniel “Danny” Bennett Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Suzanne A. “Suzy” Jones Bennett, Blackshear; a daughter, Michelle Armstrong, Jacksonville, FL; two sons, Shane McPartland, Winter Park, FL and Richard Smith, Charleston, SC; a sister, Gladys Baker, Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Darlene Bennett, Blackshear; one grandson, Ricky Smith Ill and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
