Chronicles of
Dear Readers,
I want to share a very touching and rewarding experience Rhett and I had yesterday. Please don’t think me crass, or worse yet, racist. We attended the Homegoing of one of our dear African American friends and it was a most joyful event. There was laughter, dancing, singing and testimonials shared for nearly three hours, and I think we were not the only ones saddened when it came time to leave for the cemetery for the interment. No sad weeping or gnashing of teeth at this service because everyone in attendance knew our old friend’s new address was in Heaven. We enjoyed the “peace that passes all understanding” promised in God’s Word. That’s something the unsaved can only wonder about!
Now, let me tell you about our friend’s wonderful legacy. He met his future wife when they were only children. He and the love of his life were married July 30,1955. He accepted the Lord the following year and then the adventure began for this Godly couple. He became a deacon and was even given the nickname “Deac”. He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk! He was a dedicated member of his church and attended Sunday School and church services regularly, embodying the teachings of the Bible in his daily life. He exemplified the Christian virtues of love, compassion and service and was committed to following God’s Word.
He was a devoted husband and father. He was respected and respectful, accountable, both morally and spiritually, upheld his commitments and supported his family. His legacy of faith, love and dedication continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
He and his wonderful wife were the parents of seven sons and one daughter. They lived in what was known as “the Hood”, but none of the children went astray. They knew the love of Godly parents as well as their heavenly Father. Were their lives perfect? No, there were spankings when needed, discipline when pranks required it, long talks and communication that was not always verbal. This family was connected to what matters. If only more families today followed this foolproof plan, the world would indeed be a better and safer place for all inhabitants.
We bid you Adieu Dear and Gentle friend. It was indeed a pleasure to have known you. Sincerely,
