A fire broke out on the roof of the old PCHS Friday afternoon causing some damage to the new construction there. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries. Reports indicate friction from an air compressor being used to install the new roof there ignited a propane heater leading to a small fire on top of the building. Units from the Blackshear Fire Department and the Pierce County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call. No damage estimate was available at press time. School superintendent Dara Bennett said the damage is “minor and repairs are already underway.” The gym and old administration office area at the old school was saved from demolition and is being renovated for future use.
