Joey Syon Mattox, 72, of Pierce County, passed away early Friday morning, January 31, 2025, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma.
Born in Alma May 24, 1952, he lived in Pierce County all his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Blackshear High School. He was a life-long farmer who loved his job but in his younger days, he enjoyed fishing and boating. He always enjoyed a good meal and a good tv show to watch. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Walter Davis and Ora Lee Williford Mattox. He was also preceded in death by his baby girl, Dana Louise Mattox; three sisters, Hazle Lee, Faye Peacock and Ruth Gaskins and his brother, J. Walter Mattox.
Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Joby and Tabitha Mattox, Waycross and Josh and Mattox, Fernandina Beach, FL; two sisters, Jean (Quitman) Allen, Alma and Judy (Richie) Williams, Baxley; the mother of his children, Donna Bolden, Alma; three grandchildren, Lexi, Reagan and Kree Mattox; a special niece and caregiver, Kay Carter, Pierce County and several other nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Beulah Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, from the Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Matt Tuttle, Pastor R. B. Gaskins and the Rev. Randy Crosby officiating.
Interment will be in the Beulah Cemetery.
