Shundra Owens Vickery, 42, of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2025, at her residence.
Born in Akron, OH July 16, 1982, she had lived in Wilcox County for several years before moving to Pierce County eight years ago. She was a 2000 graduate of Wilcox County High School and a 2003 graduate of Abraham Baldwin College where she received her associate’s degree in human services/family and children services. She went on to graduate from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College in 2018 with her licensed practical nurse degree.
From 2007-2017 she served as the Executive Director of the Abbeville Housing Authority. From 2019 until 2021 she worked as a geriatric nurse with the Bacon County Hospital and was currently working as an LPN Case Manager for Diversified Resources.
She grew up riding and training horses which was a passion of hers. She loved God, helping others and being with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Denise Burkhalter and her adoptive mother, Nena Owens.
Survivors include her son, David Mason Vickery, Middleburg, FL; her daughter, Mallory Vickery, Blackshear; her grandson, Wyatt; two brothers, Jimmy Ford, Duncan, SC and Michael Ford, Columbus and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A service honoring her life will be held at a later date.
Memorialization is by cremation.
