David Culpepper, long-time auto mechanics teacher at the high school and well-known local resident, passed away Wednesday morning, January 15. He was 91.
Culpepper had a long and varied career. After serving in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, Culpepper worked as a mechanic for Eastern Airlines in New York, worked at the Tampa (FL) Fire Department and for the Ford motor Company.
He was well-known locally as the auto mechanic teacher at Pierce County High School and as a courier for Peoples Bank, which was later bought by The Heritage Bank, and most recently The First.

He was also known for his restored 1953 Chevy which was the subject of a feature story in The Times several years ago.
He loved being outside, working in the yard and taking care of the church grounds of St. Johns Community Church for which he was a member.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 23, from the St. Johns Community Church.
