Steady progress is being made on the new First Southern bank under construction on Ware Street and Highway Avenue.
Lamar Johnson Construction is the contractor for the job. Al Currie, superintendent of the on-site construction, said until recently he had been working on projects in Florida for Lamar Johnson, but came back to Georgia especially for the the bank project.
Currie praised the skill and efficiency of the workers involved and mentioned the “interesting mix of materials” that will be reflected in the finished building. “Wood, stone, metal and stucco will be used,” Currie said. “It’s going to have a special water resistant stucco finish that will look real nice.”
Trusses were recently set in place by a five-man team working in conjunction with a boom truck, so it should not be too much longer before the roof is in place.
Currie said the target date for completion is still sometime in June or July, “But we’ve got plenty of time between now and then to finish it up on time.”
The groundbreaking ceremony for the bank’s new location took place in April of last year.
