WAYCROSS — William Jennings “Jimmy” Cannon, 76, of Waycross died Saturday morning, January 18, 2025, after an extended

illness.
Cannon
Cannon was born November 3, 1948, in Waycross to the late J.B. Cannon and Leona Rigdon Cannon. He grew up alongside his brothers and sisters, learning the value of hard work and the importance of family roots. Waycross was home for most of his life.
In 1968, Cannon enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Boston during the Vietnam War. His faithful service to the country was an endeavor he remembered with pride and purpose. After returning to Waycross, Cannon was employed with Ware County Public Works where he worked relentlessly and dependably as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from the county after 38 years.
On July 4, 1974, he married Peggy Ann Moore. The couple created a beautiful life together, filled with uncontrollable laughter and undeniable love. They cherished 50 wonderful years together and celebrated their golden anniversary last summer.
Cannon was a hardworking, handyman who enjoyed tending to his yard and fishing in his free time. But, he loved nothing more than being with his family. He was a charismatic comedian who could make anyone laugh. A black cap and Diet Coke were his signature accessories, and he’d never be seen without them. Cannon had many accomplishments throughout his life, but being “Uncle Jimmy” and “P-Pa” were two of his greatest achievements.
In addition to his parents, Cannon was also preceded in death by five brothers, Bradley V. Cannon, Bobby E. Cannon, Jerome Ira Cannon, James L. Cannon, Roy H. Cannon, and Michael D. Cannon; two sisters, Patricia Miers and Audrey Mc-Neal.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ann Cannon of Waycross; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
