The Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers organization is hopeful of starting the 2025 calendar year on a positive note by attracting 125 blood donors to the monthly community drive at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds on Monday, January 27.
Hours for the drive at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drives are the fourth Monday of each month at the fairgrounds, 1201 Knight Avenue.
“Last January we had 99 good units of blood donated,” said Gary Griffin, a member of the organization. “That was good, but we're capable of hitting triple digits. It's our goal each month to get more than 100.”
Seven times in 2024 the drives reached or exceeded the 100-unit goal.
“We used to make 100 all the time,” said Griffin. “In recent years our participation has fallen off slightly. Ultimately, we’re simply trying to maximize the donation of life-saving blood. The emergency blood supply has gotten pretty low.”
Robbie Roberson Ford is again the January blood drive corporate sponsor.
“They’ve never said no to the opportunity of partnering with us for this crucial cause,” Griffin said.
A generous Roberson Ford contribution means random blood donors will take home hundreds of dollars in cash door prizes.
