The Ware County Board of Education has appointed Wendell Bagley to fill its vacant District 5 seat.

Bagley was appointed Tuesday, January 7 during a called meeting of the board. He replaces Denton Dial, who died suddenly December 28.

Bagley, who was sworn in Wednesday, January 15, will complete Dial’s term ending December 31, 2026. Candidates for the seat will file in the spring of 2026.

Dial, the board’s chairman the past two years, had been a member of the board since 2011 following a long career as a teacher and administrator in the Ware County system.

In announcing the appointment in a news release, the board said Bagley “brings a strong commitment to education and community service to this role. His appointment ensures continued representation for the constituents of District 5 and supports the Board’s mission to provide quality education for all Ware County students.”
