NAHUNTA — Brantley County High School will be holding a Jersey Retirement Ceremony and Alumni Game Saturday, February 15 for alum Jaylin Williams.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m., with the alumni game bet ween even year graduates (White team) and odd year graduates (Navy). The contest will consist of two 20minute halves with Williams being honored at halftime.
Admission is $5 and the concession stand will be open.
“He is loyal, humle and unselfish,” said Tripp Herrin, his coach at BCHS. “In today’s era where athletes bounce around, Jaylin chose to stay here. He also had opportunitites to leave Auburn and didn’t. That speaks highly of who he is and the quality about him.” According to Herrin, the recognition has been in the planning stage for a couple of years.
“It just never panned out where he could be home,” said Herrin. “He came back and gave us a date he could be here. I think it may be the all-star break for the (NBA) GLeague.”
Williams is playing for the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Gold, an affiliate of the Denver Nuggets. The Gold are currently 5-6 and tied for 11th in the 16-team Eastern Conference.
A 2019 graduate and the all-time leading scorer for the Herons’ basketball program earning the Class AAA Player of the Year his senior season, Williams signed with Auburn University as a four-star recruit by both Rivals and 247Sports.
He was the No. 4ranked player in the state of Georgia by 247Sports and the No. 109 overall prospect in the Class of 2019 by Rivals and No. 120 by 247Sports.
While playing for the Tigers, Williams closed out his five-year career as the winningest player in program history (114 victories) and record holder for most career games played (141).
Williams was the 39th player in Auburn history to gain entrance into the 1,000-Career Point Club and finished 21st all-time in career scoring for the Tigers with 1,305 points.
He earned All-SEC Second Team honors following the 2023-24 season, was named to the 2023 Legends Classic All-Tournament Team and was named the 2022 Cancun Challenge Tournament MVP (Riviera Division).
Williams was a fourtime SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree (2020-21, 2021-22, 202223 and 2023-24). He was also named to the 202223 SEC Community Service Team for his volunteer work off-the-court.
Williams graduated from the College of Education with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in May 2023.
