DARIEN — Douglas McArthur Boone, 79 of Darien, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Brunswick Campus.
Boone was a native of Tattnall County. He moved to Darien at a young age. The Boone family built shrimp boats and would float them from Tattnall County down the Altamaha River where they would be used by the family business, Boone Seafood in Darien.
Boone attended McIntosh County Academy High School where he played basketball. His love for the coast would lead him to captain two shrimp boats — The Captain Terry then The Christyn Danielle. He loved to shrimp and enjoyed fishing off the Atlantic coast from Virginia to the Keys and the Gulf of Mexico all the way to Texas.
Boone retired in the early 2000’s. He also enjoyed shooting pool and won many trophies.
Boone was preceded in death by his parents, Tessie Toy Boone and Willie Alifare Ray Boone; a daughter, Danielle Boone; and four siblings, Don, Dan, Sinky and Taffie.
He is survived by a son, Douglas Scott Boone of Darien; children, Christina Woodrow (Kyle) of Darien, Elizabeth Aki of Brunswick, Barbara Daniels (Bobby) of Jesup, Jamie Aki of Darien, Dwain Edwards (Tammy) of Darien and Tammy Ginn (Jason) of Odum; two grandchildren, Christyn Elise Boone of Brunswick and Devin Scott Boone of Brantley County; a great-granddaughter, Luna; several other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
A service to celebrate Boone’s life held Thursday, January 16, 2025 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Bishop Neil Wilkerson officiating.
