Jayvee teams win once in three outings

Pierce County’s junior varsity teams dropped two of three games against Appling County and Clinch County.

The Lady Bears split falling 4622 Friday, January 17 to the Lady Pirates in Baxley and rallying for a 32-28 decision Saturday, January 18 against the Lady Panthers.

The Bears suffered a heartbreaking 51-50 loss to the Panthers.

Appling County ...............46 Lady Bears ......................22 BAXLEY — Appling County grabbed a 13-point first quarter lead and was never headed in turning back the Lady Bears.

The Lady Pirates built a 15-2 advantage after one period. They used an 11-4 run in the second stanza to stretch the lead to 26-6 at intermission.

Both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket in the third quarter with Appling County holding. 4-1 scoring advantage opening up a 30-7 lead. The two teams exploded in the final period with PCHS more than doubling its point production through three periods in a 16-15 scoring advantage for the Lady Pirates.

Kamil Strickland scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Jesslyn Moore finished with four points. Azaela Mobley and Anijah Brown each bagged a free throw.

Lady Bears ......................32 Clinch County .................28 BEARVILLE — The Lady Bears surpassed their point production through three quarters outscoring Clinch County by six points to rally for the win.

PCHS trailed 16-14 when the final period began. The Lady Bears used an 18-12 scoring advantage for the come-from-behind victory.

Strickland keyed the comeback scoring eight of her team-leading 14 points in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bears claimed an 8-6 lead after one period. Clinch County cut the deficit in half outscoring the home team 5-4 in the second quarter to trail 12-11 at halftime.

The Lady Panthers used a 5-2 scoring advantage in the third stanza to grab a 16-14 lead.

Shakira Smith, Moore, Chandell and Drew each scored four points for PCHS. Mobley added two points.

Clinch County ..................51 Bears ..............................50 BEARVILLE – Clinch County outscored the Bears by 11 points in the second half to rally for the win spoiling the 31-point outburst of Jamel Strickland.

The Panthers claimed a 12-10 lead at the end of the opening period. Pierce County followed with a 20-8 surge in the second quarter sparked by the 15 points of Strickland, who finished the first half with 23, for a 3020 lead.

Clinch County knocked four points off the margin in the third quarter outscoring the Bears 17-13 to climb to within 43-37. The Panthers doubled up PCHS 14-7 in the final period to escape.

Marshon Stanford followed Strickland with nine points Kendrick Benson netted five points. Gihad Taylor and Trey Clarke bagged two points apiece. Dylan Johnson added a free throw.
