(The Pierce County Board of Education discussed and/or voted on the following during their regular monthly meeting Monday, January 13.
Closed session and personnel: The board adjourned into a five minute closed session to discuss personnel at Monday’s meeting. After the closed session, the board approved renewal of a new three-year contract for high school principal Kelly Murray on a 4-1 vote. First district board member Kirby Malone voted no. Malone explained he had no issue with Murray, but believes the high school principal should receive a one-year contract like all of the system’s other principals. The board also approved reappointment of all central office staff and school principals including Assistant Superintendent Yvette Newton, Director of Finance and Human Resources Melanie Helms, Director of Instruction and Assessment Support Teresa Dixon, Director of Nutrition Becky Swain, Director of Special Programs Dr. Anita Harris, Director of Student Services Sarah McIntosh, School Psychologist Lauren Taylor, School Social Worker and PBIS Coordinator Jennifer Johnson, Blackshear Elementary principal Mandy Williams, Midway Elementary principal Dr. Brandi Todd, Patterson Elementary principal Amanda Lankford and middle school principal Amanda Gay.
The board also approved the recommendation of Brett Tuten as a community baseball coach at the high school, the resignation of Rebecca Dixon as a receptionist at Midway Elementary and the retirements of Debra Herrin, school nutrition assistant at Blackshear Elementary, Donna Melton, paraprofessional at Midway Elementary and Tracy Reid, speech language pathologist at the middle school.
