Fees, dates set for 2025 Municipal Election

The Waycross City Commission approved a resolution during its bimonthly meeting Tuesday, January 7 setting parameters for the 2025 Municipal Election.

Seats for Districts 1-3 expire December 31, 2025, and will be determined for the 2026-29 term in the election Tuesday, November 4. The resolution established the qualifying fee, qualifying period, early voting dates, and registration deadline for voting eligibility.

Fee will be $288 with the qualifying period Tuesday-Friday, August 19-22. The fee represents three percent of a commissioner’s $9,600 annual salary.

Candidates can file from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. daily in the City Hall office of City Clerk Jackie Powell during the qualifying period.

Early voting for the offices will be October 14-30 at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration, 408 Tebeau Street.

Supervisor of Elections Carlos Nelson said he will recommend board members approve the office’s regular business hours for weekday voting (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) and (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) on the two Saturdays during the period.

City residents registered by the close of business Monday, October 6 will be eligible to cast a ballot.

Voting election day will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at city locations.

Shawn Roberts (D-1), Sheinita Bennett (D-2) and Katrena Felder (D-3), currently hold the seats.

Roberts was elected last month in a special election for the seat formerly held by the late Norman E. Davis, who died in April. Bennett and Felder were elected in 2021.

Each of the three is holding office for the first time.
