Two men from the neighborhood watch as a member of the Waycross Fire Department battles a fire Friday, January 10 at a duplex on Eads Street. Waycross Interim Fire Chief Jim Blackburn said firefighters received a call at 2:38 p.m., and were on the scene in four minutes to find fire on the front porch and inside in the front room of one side of the duplex. The three responding units had the blaze under control in 20 minutes, Blackburn said. No one was home at the time of the fire. The other apartment was not occupied. WFD Fire Marshal Matt Hall and the State Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the blaze, Blackburn said. The structure sustained smoke and water damage. Photo by SAMUEL POND
